Sony SmartBand life tracker now on sale in the UK, yours for £80
Sony's fitness-tracking SmartBand is now available to buy in the UK, and will play nicely with any Android smartphone
Sony has officially made its SmartBand life tracking wristband available to buy in the UK, bringing fitness, sleep and life tracking abilities to any Android smartphone.
Unlike Samsung’s Gear Fit fitness tracker, the SmartBand will work with more than just Sony smartphones and is meant for more than just fitness. Used in conjunction with Sony’s LifeLog app, which comes pre-installed on the Xperia Z2 smartphone and is available to download from the Google Play Store, it can track more than just the number of steps taken or hours slept.
The app monitors the number of photos you take each day, the amount of time spend listening to music or watching video, and includes a bookmark button which lets you mark out specific moments to capture everything happening at a specific time. Although designed to be worn 24/7 on your wrist, the SmartBand can be taken apart – letting you put the removable core into another wristband should you fancy a visual change.
There’s no display, but the touch-sensitive Core can still be used to control multimedia playback. It will also vibrate to wake you up in the morning, or to let you know you’ve received a notification on a paired smartphone. SmartBand has Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity and NFC for simple pairing.
The SmartBand is now available to buy from the official Sony store in either black or World Cup-themed green and yellow colours. It joins the growing ranks of activity trackers and smart wearable devices, including Sony’s own Smartwatch 2, Fitbit Flex and Nike Fuelband.
