Eglove Sport review
No more holding your glove in your teeth to operate your smartphone with these exercise-friendly gloves
The UK’s weather means that gloves are a necessary accessory for anyone who runs or cycles, but most gloves completely prevent you from using any kind of capacitive touchscreen hardware, whether it’s a cycle GPS, sports watch or smartphone.
Eglove’s Sport gloves are designed for exercise, and have touchscreen-friendly conductive material in the fingertips. They’re made of breathable lycra which fits snugly around your hand, feels surprisingly warm and does a fair job of lifting sweat from your skin as you start to become more active. We were also pleased with the velvety sweat-removal strip that stretches from the base of your hand along the side of the thumb and forefinger, making it easy to wipe the inevitable sweat from your face.
Only the thumb and forefinger of each glove have touchscreen conductors, but that’s all we needed. Navigating phone apps such as Runkeeper and Endomondo was easy, as they tend to have large on-screen buttons and most actions involve simple dragging or swiping. It was similarly easy to control our music player. Typing location names into Google Maps took a little more precision, but we were pleased to find that even this was fairly easy to do through the conductive fingertips. You’ll want to make sure you buy gloves with the tightest possible fit, though, as any looseness makes it much harder use an on-screen keyboard with accuracy.
The gloves are machine washable at a low heat and are available in a variety of sizes and colours, including black and grey, black and green and a lurid shade of pink. The entire range comes with a 12-month warranty and feels very well made. We’re not sure how durable the impressed plastic Eglove logo and decoration will prove to be, but the functional parts of the glove all feel as durable as they are comfortable. If you use apps while exercising, they’re a great buy.
