EyeSpy247 HDSD review
Works brilliantly once you get it set up and video quality is excellent, but the HDSD costs a fortune
Due to our ADSL connection’s limited upstream bandwidth, footage viewed over the internet was serviceable but had a low frame rate and visible compression artefacts. Footage viewed over a local network was superb, however. In normal indoor lighting, there was little noise and a smooth frame rate, and even with all the lights off (the camera switches to infrared mode with an audible click) you could still tell who was walking around in a room. If you want to use the camera locally you can record video to a microSD card plugged into the side, and it comes with some clunky but serviceable surveillance software.
We were disappointed that the EyeSpy247 HDSD wasn’t easier to set up, as once you have it going the web portal works brilliantly. Video streamed around a local network looks great, too, even at night. A big problem is price. £191 is a huge amount of money even for a high-quality camera, especially considering that it has no pan, tilt or zoom controls. Despite its obvious strengths, the HDSD’s high price stops it getting top marks.
