Panasonic Viera TX-L47ET5B review
You need to tweak settings to get the best out of its panel, but the TX-L47ET5B has excellent 3D and media streaming
Specifications
47in, Analogue, Freeview HD, 1,920×1,080 resolution, 3D: yes, 4x HDMI
The EPG has no preview window and even stops playback of TV when you access it, so you can’t even listen to the news while browsing for a programme to watch. It also only shows seven channels at a time, with a lot of screen space taken up by a key to the controls, which should really have been left in the manual.
A Viera Tools button takes you to the DLNA-enabled media player, which can play files from USB drives and from media servers on your network.
There’s a broad range of internet services too, but it’s stronger in some areas than others. Film services include Netflix, iPlayer, Vimeo, DailyMotion and YouTube, whereas music services are limited to Aupeo, Shoutcast Radio and a couple of lesser-known services.
Panasonic might specialise in Plasma, but the ET5B proves it can still contend with the other big names when it comes to LCD too. It has plenty of I/O ports, great media and online streaming features, and decent image quality. If you fancy a Panasonic, however, also consider the 50in version of the Panasonic Viera TX-P42ST50B.
