Acer H6510BD review
A flexible and bright projector with a high-quality 2D mode, but 3D lets it down slightly
Specifications
1,920×1,080 resolution, 3,000 ANSI lumens, 78x264x220mm, 2.2kg
That said, we didn’t have much trouble finding a favourite preset mode. We found that Movie produced the darkest blacks and most vibrant colours, but Dark Cinema mode gave us a greater level of detail in darker scenes without compromising the rest of the image too much. Colours weren’t quite as rich in this mode, but others such as Game increased the brightness further still which made colours feel washed out and blacks look quite grey. Bright is best avoided, however, as this made colours look far too green and sickly.
It also supports 3D, but you’ll have to pay extra for 3D glasses (compatible E2W DLP 3D glasses are £68 from www.saverstore.com) as none are included in the box. Unlike other mid-range projectors, however, you’re fairly limited on menu options, as you’re stuck with just a single User mode and its small number of 3D settings. Thankfully, you can still up the brightness and alter the picture profile settings like you can in the 2D User mode, but despite having seven different 3D formats, Auto is the only one which didn’t hurt our eyes.
Watching films in 3D was good but not exceptional. We didn’t see any crosstalk, but there was also no escaping the small amount of flicker generated by the glasses we were sent with our review unit. It wasn’t too off-putting, but it doesn’t quite compare with the near flawless 3D of the similarly priced Optoma HD25.
Ultimately, this slightly holds the Acer H5610BD back. We liked its 2D picture quality, but when it comes to 3D, it’s trumped by the Best-Buy winning Optoma HD25 in almost every department.
