Acer K750 Hybrid review
Bright enough to use in even the harshest lighting conditions, but this hybrid projector is jack of all trades and master of none
Specifications
1,920×1,080 resolution, 1,500 ANSI lumens, 87x321x231mm, 4.0kg
Image quality aside, one of the main advantages of a hybrid projector over other systems is not having to maintain a lamp. This not only reduces the amount of heat it generates, but also the cost of its overall maintenance. The K750’s rated to last for 20,000 hours of use, so you could theoretically use it non-stop for just over two years. It’s 30db-noise level means it’s pretty quiet too, making it much more bearable to sit near while watching a film or presentation.
The projector itself has been designed with portability in mind, and it’s one of the smaller Full HD units we’ve tested. Its white plastic chassis looks more at home in a school or office environment, but it looks smart and feels well-made. The menu controls are located on top of the projector, while the inputs are on the back; its lens has +/- 15 degrees of vertical keystone adjustment. There’s no horizontal lens shift, though, so you’ll need to use the bundled remote to adjust it manually. You’ll also need access to the lens to focus the image and use the optical 1.2x zoom.
The Acer K750 has two HDMI ports, one VGA, one composite and one S-Video input. There’s also a 3.5mm audio line input and 3.5mm audio output. It also has a 2W speaker, but it’s only good for emergency use. Still, there’s just about enough volume to fill a medium-sized room if you have the volume on max, but anything lower than half volume will require you to sit quite close to it.
The Acer K750 is still one of the few laser-LED hybrids on the market, but its strength clearly lies in projecting still images rather than home cinema. Its brightness means you can easily use it in both light and dark conditions, but we think it’s a little expensive. Instead, we’d recommend the 3D-ready Epson EH-TW6000, which costs roughly the same amount of money but has much better image quality and is better suited to watching films.
