How to share Amazon Prime (including Prime Video) with multiple users
Have an Amazon Prime account and want to share Instant Video streaming? Here's how you can do it
Over the years, Amazon Prime has grown and grown to become more than just an expedited delivery service. Nowadays, the £79 yearly membership (that’s just £6.58 a month – or you can get a monthly membership for £7.99) gets you a whole lot more, from Amazon Prime Music, online photo storage, discounts on nappies, Kindle Owners’ Lending Library for eBooks, early access for Amazon’s Lightning deals and, perhaps most enticingly, you also get access to Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Amazon’s Prime Instant Video is a major rival to Netflix with a wealth of content available to stream completely free as part of your Prime membership. Much like Netflix, Amazon is now in the business of producing its own exclusive content as part of Amazon Originals, which means shows such as The Grand Tour, Transparent, The Man in the High Castle and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel can only be legally watched on Amazon Prime Instant Video. Amazon still has separate streaming content that isn’t part of the Prime Instant Video service, however, so look out for the Prime logo to ensure you’re not charged more for renting or buying streaming content.
As well as Prime Music and Prime Instant Video, Amazon Prime also includes Prime Reading, which launched in May. This service provides unlimited reading access to more than 1,000 ebooks, magazines and comics and no eReader is necessary because the materials can be accessed on any device through Amazon’s free Kindle apps.
Prime members can also get a cheaper upgrade to Amazon Music Unlimited, which will give you access to stream over 40 million songs. For non-members, Music Unlimited would cost £120 per year, but for Prime members, it’s just £79.

You’re able to share many of the benefits of an Amazon Prime subscription with other users by creating an Amazon Household. In the past, you could create a Household with up to four adults, but this has been reduced to just two (you and one other). You can still add up to four children, at least, so you can customise the experience for younger users and create custom libraries depending on their age and tastes.
When sharing with another adult, this gives them access to the following – so long as they have their own Amazon account:
- Prime Delivery and Prime Now.
- AmazonFresh grocery delivery (if you have the Fresh add-on).
- Prime Video (streaming only) and Prime Reading.
- Early access to Lightning Deals with Prime Early Access, plus Prime-exclusive items.
- Prime Live Events, Premium Seating and Pre-Sale tickets.
- Prime-exclusive pricing on Amazon Music Unlimited and Kindle Fire for Kids Unlimited subscriptions.
- Up to 20% off nappie and baby food subscriptions, compliments of Amazon Family.
How to create an Amazon Household
There are two options you can use in order to create an Amazon Household – by sending an email invitation or by signing-in together to verify your accounts. Note: Both adults each need their own Amazon account.
Here’s how to create your Amazon Household via email invitation:
- Go to ‘Your Account’ and scroll down to the ‘Shopping programmes’ box. Click on ‘Amazon Household’.
- Click on the ‘Add Adult’ box under ‘Create your Household now’.
- Enter the name and email address of the person you wish to invite, then click ‘Continue’.
- Now you’ll have the option to share payment methods (required in order to share Prime benefits) and create a Family Library.
- Next up it’s the ‘Ready to Send’ page, where you can review the name and email address you entered.
- After that, click ‘Send invite’ and your new household member will have 14 days to accept your invitation.
The other option to create your Amazon Household is by signing-in together:
- Go to ‘Your Account’ and scroll down to the ‘Shopping programmes’ box. Click on ‘Amazon Household’.
- Click on the ‘Add Adult’ box under ‘Create your Household now’.
- Click on ‘Sign up together on this device’.
- Next, the other adult will have to sign-in to Amazon as a ‘Second adult’ or create a new Amazon account.
- Select whether you agree to share your payment methods, Amazon content, Prime benefits, and management of any child profiles.
- Click ‘Create household’.
