Stream 4K Netflix on your Roku TV in 2015
Roku's latest version of its Roku TV platform will support 4K streaming on select TVs later this year
Roku has announced that it’s bringing 4K Ultra HD video streaming to its Roku TV smart TV platform. The latest version of Roku TV, which was revealed at CES 2015, will begin rolling out on TCL-branded TVs in the US later this year, with other TV manufacturers hopefully following suit once Roku has made its reference design available for licensing.
Unsurprisingly, Netflix is one of the first 4K content providers to sign up for Roku’s new TV platform, although the number of Netflix programs actually available in 4K is still limited to House of Cards and Breaking Bad.
“As one of the first streaming services to offer 4K Ultra HD content to our customers, it’s important for Netflix to work closely with partners like Roku to give consumers more streaming options,” said Neil Hunt, chief product officer of Netflix. “We look forward to bringing Netflix 4K Ultra HD content to Roku customers.”
Roku TV will also be coming to other TV brands such as Haier America and Best Buy’s Insignia. Select Insignia models will be available in the spring while Haier has said its Roku TVs won’t be available until Q3 of this year. There’s currently no word on when Roku TV will come to the UK, but considering the success of the Roku Streaming Stick, it’s surely only a matter of time.
