A calibration mic is included to ensure that the speaker volumes are adjusted for their position in the room. Blu-ray soundtracks were reproduced with gusto and vast amounts of deep bass, but it wasn’t the most refined sound we’ve ever heard. Music tests were less forgiving. The satellites sounded distant and indistinct, there was a lack of lower-mid frequencies and bass notes were uneven. Playing some test tones revealed that the subwoofer had an extremely uneven response, blasting some frequencies and struggling with others.

There aren’t any other ways to get a Blu-ray 3D player and surround speaker system for just £321, and our criticisms over sound quality must be taken in that light. However, while this Blu-ray player is almost impossible to fault – particularly in terms of its online features – the speakers don’t do it justice. We’d rather spend a little more to redress the balance with Panasonic’s BTT350.
