Hudl 2 release date, price and specs confirmed by Tesco
Tesco has revealed its Hudl 2 tablet, which will have an 8.3in Full HD screen
Tesco has revealed its second tablet, the Hudl 2. The release date is set for 8 October, with the Hudl 2 coming in eight colours with blue, purple, red, light blue, pink, orange, white and black available. The follow-up to the succesful budget Hudl tablet the Hudl 2 will cost £129.
The screen size has been upped from 7in on the original Hudl to 8.3in on the Hudl 2. Tesco has also bumped screen resolution to Full HD 1,920×1,200. With a higher resolution images should look sharper and crisper.
Tesco has gone for an Intel Atom quad-core CPU, rather than the usual ARM-based CPUs that we see in tablets and smartphones. The company is also promising up to eight hours of battery life, which isn’t bad, although we’ve seen tablets last far longer.
Android 4.4.2 KitKat comes pre-installed, so you get the latest version of Android complete with access to the Google Play store. Tesco has not said whether the Hudl 2 will get an upgrade to Android L when it launches later this year. The Hudl 2 will have 16GB of storage with a microSD card slot for expansion, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2 megapixel front camera.
Tesco has also added parental controls to keep kids safe when using apps or browing the web. It will also have schedules, turning itself off at bedtime, so you can set when your kids are allowed to use the tablet.
The Hudl 2 will be available from 8 October for £129. As with the original Hudl, Clubcard owners can get it for less by spending points as well. Customers can use Clubcard Boost so that every £5 of points equals £10 towards the tablet. With enough points it will be possible to get the Hudl 2 for half price. .
Tesco has also cut the price of the original Hudl to £99. We’ll bring you more information and a hands-on with the Hudl 2 soon.
