Amazon's new six months' free one-day delivery offer is designed to save students money on the essentials, and get it fast

Amazon has launched Amazon Student, a new programme designed to help students save both time and hard-earned cash by providing them with free one-day delivery across Amazon’s vast range of products.

Eligible students will be able to receive free one-day delivery for six months from the point of signing up, giving them a small taste of Amazon’s Prime membership – although Prime Instant Video isn’t included in the free subscription. After the six month trial has expired, students will be able to sign up to Amazon Prime at a discounted rate of £39. This is half the normal price of Amazon Prime, and of course includes all Prime Instant Video content and the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library of 500,000+ eBooks.

“Students currently at University, or those heading there this year, are the internet generation accustomed to conducting their lives online, via their phone, tablet or PC,” Xavier Garambois, Amazon’s VP of EU Retail, said of the launch. “Our student customers tell us that they want to save time and money when shopping and this programme has been designed to achieve that goal.”

To coincide with the launch, Amazon will be taking 20% off all Kindle Fire tablets, including the Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX 7 and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, until the 15th of May. If that wasn’t enough, students will be able to get an additional 20% back when trading in any used books through Amazon’s Trade-In scheme.

If you’re eligible for the programme, you can sign up on Amazon.co.uk using a valid University or college email address.
