eBay Now coming to UK: Shopping delivered to your location in just one hour

eBay today announced that it would be launching its eBay Now delivery service in the UK early next year – though it will only cover London to begin with. eBay Now is quite different from the traditional auction house experience you may associate with the site. Instead it lets you buy goods from local retailers, including the likes of RadioShack, Toys R Us, Best Buy and Urban Outfitters, and have them couriered to you within the hour.

In the US the service costs $5 per delivery, plus of course the inevitable tip that our transatlantic cousins add to everything. The most exciting part if that eBay will deliver straight to your location, based on a GPS signal from your smartphone. Very handy if you need something in a hurry while on a day out in town.

Given that eBay has just announced a big partnership with Argos on Click & Collect services, we’d be very surprised if the retailer isn’t among the first to sign up for the service. That means you’d be able to get a cricket set, delivered straight to your local park, on a Saturday afternoon, without having to head off to find one. Just sit back, have your picnic and wait for your gear to arrive.

eBay is being bullish about the future of retail, with Devin Wenig in the UK to announce the launch. He claimed that “the ten trillion world commerce market is going to be turned on its head in the next two years”. He went on to describe how the divisions between eCommerce and Commerce were ending and that new, more integrated, more customer-focused retail would soon be with us.
