Prime Day: Amazon slashes Prime membership ahead of sales bonanza
The £20 price drop makes Amazon Prime even more appealing - even to those planning to cash in on the free 30-day trial
As if all those exclusive deals aren’t already enough of a draw, Amazon has just slashed the cost of their Prime membership ahead of next week’s Prime Day.
The online retail giant seems hellbent on getting as many people as possible to sign up to their scheme and its assorted perks: it has just brought down the cost of a year-long Prime membership from £79 to £59.
If we were being cynical, we might say this is a strategic move on Amazon’s part. Lots of shoppers out there might – just might – be planning to sign up to a free 30-day trial membership in order to take advantage of the numerous discounts that will be applied to hundreds of products during the Prime Day period… only to cancel it before the trial period ends. But for those of them who are half-considering Prime on a permanent basis, the monthly cost of £4.91 rather £6.58 certainly sounds a lot more attractive.

In any case, if you’re considering signing up to Amazon Prime, now is definitely the perfect moment. Amazon is naturally keeping details of their sale close to the vest right now, but this year’s Prime Day is bigger than last year’s, now lasting two days instead of one. Amazon even kicked off proceedings with a Prime Day concert that featured Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa, and streamed yesterday, exclusively to – yep, you guessed right. Prime Video.
We’re anticipating some of the biggest price drops outside of Black Friday, and we’ll be giving them plenty of coverage when Prime Day begins on Monday. In addition, we’ll be regularly updating our Amazon deals page with the best discounts. You can head here to sign up for a Prime membership – whether or not you plan to cancel before those free 30 days are over. Hey: we’re not judging.
