Belkin announces new Thunderbolt 2 Express Dock HD
Belkin's new docking solution for PC and Mac will support up to eight devices through a single Thunderbolt cable
Belkin has today announced the Thunderbolt 2 Express Dock HD for PC and Mac. With two Thunderbolt 2 ports at its disposal, it allows users to take advantage of Thunderbolt 2’s high-speed 20Gbps bandwidth, providing more reliable transfers between laptops and up to eight other devices using just one Thunderbolt cable. This is twice as fast as original Thunderbolt and up to four times faster than USB3.
Made of brushed aluminium, the Express Dock HD comes with a 1m Thunderbolt cable and is compatible with any Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 device, including laptops, desktops and Macs. In addition to the two Thunderbolt 2 ports, the dock also includes an HDMI port, three USB3 ports with charging support when the device is turned off, an Gigabit Ethernet port, and two 3.5mm audio jacks for headphones and a microphone. There will also be support for another four Thunderbolt devices via daisy-chain.
“Belkin’s Thunderbolt 2 Express Dock HD is an all-in-one solution that fully takes advantage of the Thunderbolt technology and creates endless possibilities for your setup,” said Melody Tescon, Director of Product Management at Belkin. “Not only does it offer exceptional performance and maximum transfer speeds for creating and editing, but it also creates a more efficient work environment.”
With both HDMI and Thunderbolt 2 on board, you’ll be able to use the dock to support two monitors (as long as one is a Thunderbolt display), or one 4K display.
“As consumer preference for a mobile and versatile workspace increases, Thunderbolt 2 continues to deliver unparalleled performance, flexibility and simplicity to personal computing,” said Jason Ziller, Intel’s director of Thunderbolt marketing. “Products like Belkin’s Thunderbolt 2 Express Dock HD help highlight what Thunderbolt 2 makes possible.”
The Thunderbolt 2 Express Dock is available for pre-order today and will be available to buy at Apple stores, complete with Thunderbolt cable, in October for £249.99. It will be hitting other retail stores in November.
