Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 specs leaked, just in time for MWC
Specifications have leaked online for an unannounced Sony tablet, which is expected to replace the Xperia Tablet Z as the company's flagship 10in Android device
Sony is apparently preparing to introduce a new flagship Android tablet to replace the Xperia Tablet Z, potentially in time for a reveal at next week’s Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, according to industry whistleblower @evleaks.
A tweet posted late last night suggests that Sony’s new Xperia Z2 tablet will be a direct upgrade to the Tablet Z, with similar specifications that don’t stray too far from the original. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, however, as we were impressed with the original Tablet Z when we reviewed it back in May last year.
According to the leak, the Xperia Tablet Z2 will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.3GHz and 3GB of RAM. This will apparently sit behind a 10.1in, 1,920×1,200 resolution display with Sony’s Triluminos colour technology – which amazingly is beginning to look a little pedestrian when compared to the 2,560×1,440 screens found in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
16GB of storage will be offset by a microSD card slot and the operating system will reportedly be the latest Android 4.4 KitKat build. It’s unclear whether Sony will tweak the OS with its own Xperia interface, although given its track record this seems highly likely.
An eight megapixel rear camera, two megapixel front webcam and 6,000mAh battery are also set to appear in the device, which will reportedly be just 6.4mm thick. It should also carry on the tradition of being entirely waterproof, just like its predecessor.
Sony has scheduled a press conference on the first day of Mobile World Congress, which is where we expect to learn more about the Xperia Tablet Z2 (should it exist) along with the rumoured Xperia Z2 smartphone.
