ASUS VivoTab Note 8 launches with Windows 8.1, Wacom stylus
Asus has revealed the VivoTab Note 8 as part of its CES press conference, with the full version of Windows 8.1
Asus used its CES press conference to reveal the VivoTab Note 8, an 8in tablet running the full version of Windows 8.1 thanks to Intel Atom internals, which will ship with a Wacom digitiser stylus.
Despite its compact size and 380g weight, the VivoTab Note 8 runs a full version of Windows 8.1 and ships with a copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. You also get a year’s unlimited subscription to Asus’s WebStorage cloud-based backup and syncing service.
Performance comes courtesy of the latest quad-core 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z3740 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB SSD. A micro SDXC slot means that you can add up to 64GB of additional storage, too.
The 8in touchscreen IPS display has a fairly standard resolution of 1,280×800, while the tablet itself measures 221x134x11mm – that’s just a little larger than the latest version of the Google Nexus 7.
The included Wacom digitiser stylus, is perhaps the most exciting aspects of the VivoTab Note 8, as we’ve found it difficult to navigate the Desktop on compact tablets running the full version of Windows with just a finger. While touchscreen tablets can feel a little clumsy when it comes to fine control, writing and drawing, a digitiser pen allows more much more precise and natural interaction with your device. It uses technology we last saw in the Microsoft Surface Pro 2, so we have high hopes it will make general use a lot easier.
Targeted firmly at students and businesspeople on the move, the VivoTab Note 8 should last around 8 hours on a full charge, so you’ll be able to keep working for a reasonable period between trips to a power socket. Other features include a 5MP rear camera and HD front camera that’ll be ideal for video calls and selfies.
The VivoTab Note 8 will be on the shelves next month and cost £300.
