PC World slashes HP Touchpad price to £89

HP TouchPad

Massive price cuts to shift stock

Ironically, it looks as though HP’s decision to kill the TouchPad could make the tablet, temporarily, a best seller.

Following on from HP’s decision to cut its losses with WebOS devices, a TouchPad fire sale has started. Originally beginning in the US with price cuts of the 16GB model down to $99, the UK has responded. From today at 6pm online and tomorrow in stores, PC World will be selling the 16GB model for just £89 and the 32GB model for £115.

Demand is expected to be high and the product is bound to sell out quickly, as consumers scrabble to bag a bargain. At these prices it’s hard to argue. In our HP TouchPad review we found that the tablet was really rather good and WebOS and its multitasking brilliant.

Of course, we also said that with few apps, buying one was a bit of a gamble on future support. With HP discontinuing the product, it appears as though that gamble won’t take off. Still, if you want a decent and cheap tablet for web browsing and email, and don’t care about apps, the current deals are hard to turn down.

With the mass demand for this product, we think that the remaining stock will easily sell out, giving the TouchPad, which made our top 10 short lived products list, a small final boost.
