Currys PC World is flogging the 2017 iPad Pro on the cheap
Two years old, but still seriously powerful
Today is a good day to buy an iPad. Amazon has dropped the price of the 2017 iPad Pro, with the excellent tablet now going for £399 – but Currys PC World has gone one better, letting you bag one for £349.
Here’s the 64GB model on the Currys PC World site – it’s listed at £399, but add the voucher code IPAD50 at checkout and the price will drop to £349, which is stunning value. The same code works on the 256GB model (£449, down to £399) and the 512GB version (£499, down to £449). Bear in mind that iPads don’t have expandable storage via microSD, so it’s worth spending a bit more if you know you’re going to load up on apps, games and music.
Dealing with the elephant in the room first: yes, this isn’t the latest version of the iPad Pro. But the thing about the iPad Pro is that it was overpowered at the time so this is still a better buy than the 2019 10.2in iPad. It packs the Apple A10X Fusion processor, which is somewhere between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 in terms of power, making it pretty solid in tablet terms. Here’s its performance compared to other Apple slates:
On top of this, it has a better screen than the cheap newer iPads, and it also has first-generation Apple Pencil support, meaning you can doodle and sketch to your heart’s content.
As Jon wrote in his original review: “Add a keyboard, boost performance to near laptop levels and tweak the software so it feels more like a desktop – suddenly you have a machine that’s no longer a companion device, but one that’s ready to be your main computer.”
Make no mistake: £399 was a bargain – £349 is whatever the level below “bargain” is. Let’s call it a steal and leave it at that.
