The Surface Pro 6 is going cheap at Amazon
A new version might be on the way, but the Surface Pro 6 is still a wonderful convertible
Regular readers of Expert Reviews will know we’re big fans of the Microsoft Surface Pro line of 2-in-1 devices. We’ve praised pretty much every device we’ve reviewed, and the Surface Pro 6 is, unsurprisingly, the best of the lot. Or will be until Microsoft formally announces the Surface Pro 7, which is expected next week.
Maybe that’s why Amazon has slashed the prices on the Surface Pro 6. Right now, the site is selling the Intel Core i5 version with 8GB RAM, 128GB of internal storage and a black Type Cover for £779.99 – a £324.01 saving on its original RRP.
If you want double the storage, you can pay £929.99 – an even bigger saving of £444.01 – but given the Surface Pro 6 has a microSD card slot, you’re probably better off using the money on a high-capacity card to put there instead.
Whichever you buy though, you’re getting an excellent machine. As Tom concluded in his review: “For those in search of a 2-in-1 laptop that’s both stylish and speedy, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a safe bet. It’s darn pricey, though, and the fact that it doesn’t come with a Type Cover bundled in is nothing short of a travesty.”
Both of these problems are fixed with the Amazon deal, of course, but should you wait for the Surface Pro 7? Well, maybe, but if past form is anything to go by, it’ll likely be an iterative update. Indeed, Tom’s very next line in the review pretty much said as much a year ago:
“I’m hesitant to recommend this device over the 2017 Surface Pro, given how similar they are in terms of design and performance, with the older model actually proving the better machine in some respects. Besides, the older Surface Pro is now available from as little as £799 for an Intel Core i5 model.”
With the price of the Surface Pro 6 now at £779.99, it does feel like history may be repeating itself…
