Fresh rumours suggest that a foldable 5G iPad could be releasing next year
Apple is apparently working on a new iPad design, aiming for a 2020 release
We may soon be seeing a foldable iPad next year with a host of fresh Apple tablet features, if recent rumours are to be believed.
The Economic Daily News reported that IHS Market analyst Jeff Lin said that Apple has been attempting to build its first foldable iPad in secret for a planned release in 2020.
While not much was revealed, Jeff did say that the foldable iPad would be 5G compatible, use A-series processors and the screen will be similar in size to current MacBook products. While he didn’t reveal which MacBook model he was referring to specifically, we could be looking at a screen size of up to 15in.

It’s important to point out, however, that the leak did not suggest how the iPad would actually fold. While the immediate assumption would be to believe that the screen itself would fold – like the Samsung Galaxy Fold or Huawei Mate X – it could also be formed of two separate screens attached by hinges.
In the same article, Jeff also claims that the iPad will have a number of improved and entirely new features; an example being improved business-friendly capabilities. While he didn’t say what these changes would look like, it’s interesting to think about all the same.
Interestingly, the article states that, when compared to the production of Apple’s regular tablets, the foldable iPad will require almost double the amount of resources to produce. Whether this means Apple’s rumoured iPad would end up costing significantly more than its other tablets is unknown, but don’t be surprised if that ends up being the case.
