Get £50 off Apple’s shiny new 2018 iPad Pros

Still expensive, but moving in the right direction

Nobody would call Apple’s range of 2018 iPad Pros cheap, but they are a little more affordable than they were before Christmas now. Both John Lewis and Currys have knocked £50 off a wide selection of the 2018 iPad Pro range, meaning they now start from £719, rather than the previous £769.

That £719 will get you the 11in iPad pro with 64GB of internal storage. If you need cellular data for internet on the go, that will set you back £869, down from £919 before the discount.

Of course, it’s worth remembering that no iPad has ever come with microSD support, meaning the internal storage is all you’ll ever have. For that reason, you may decide you need the 256GB (£869) iPad Pro, or even the £1,069 512GB version.

The £50-off offers extend into the giant 12.9in range – very much the option to go for if you do a lot of drawing – although stock seems a little lower here. The 64GB 12.9in WiFi model is available for £919, down from £969, and if you really want to push the boat out, the 12.9in 512GB model with cellular data is down to £1,419 (from £1,469).

Remember that if you’re upgrading, the new iPad Pros aren’t compatible with the previous Apple Pencil, so you’ll need to spend an extra £119 on that.

Okay, these aren’t amazing savings, but then discounts on Apple products are rare at the best of times. And for what it’s worth, we do still kind of love the new range of iPad Pros, despite their hefty price hike. As Jon wrote in his review: “Everywhere you look on the 2018 iPad Pro’s spec sheet, in fact, there’s a minor or a major upgrade, adding up to a huge step forward for the iPad Pro as a whole.

“It’s superfast and incredibly well made. It’s better in almost every conceivable way than the previous model and it even manages to beat Intel-based Windows 2-in-1 tablets for performance.”

The price and the lack of flexibility compared to fully-fledged laptops and Windows convertibles were the only stumbling block, in fact. The latter is still definitely a problem for some, but thanks to these minor discounts the former is a little less of a problem than it was yesterday.

If you want a cheaper experience, John Lewis also has last year’s iPad Pros reduced, and the plain old iPad – now with Apple Pencil support – is also £20 cheaper, coming in at a tempting £280.
