Original Hudl gets a £40 price cut as the Hudl 2 goes on sale
With the more high-spec Hudl 2 now on sale Tesco has slashed the price of the original Hudl by £40. The 7in Android tablet is now available for £79, down from £119. It isn’t clear if the price drop is permanent or temporary but Tesco is displaying it as a discount rather than a change in price.
The original Hudl launched back in September 2013 and sold more than 500,000 units in its first few months on sale. The budget tablet received favourable reviews despite its meagre specifications. Its 1.5GHz processor is backed up by 1GB of RAM and 16GB of memory. The 7in screen is also quite low-with a resolution of 1440×900.
The Hudl 2 went on sale earlier this week with a higher resolution 8.3in screen and faster processor. It appears as though Tesco will continue to sell the original Hudl as a more budget-friendly tablet. It is currently available in black, blue, purple and red and comes with free standard delivery. The Hudl is also available with Clubcard Boost.
Reviews of the Hudl 2 have also been overwhelmingly positive. In our verdict we praised it for being a “thoroughly grown-up tablet” that is even better value than its predecessor. It scored 5/5 and received a Best Buy award.
Tesco’s forays into consumer electronics might go further still, with the company confirming it was working on a budget 4G smartphone. Tesco had hoped to release the handset in the near future but plans were put on hold when the market became “even more competitive”.
