Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro £1,300 convertible ultrabook revealed

New watchband hinge and Intel Core M processor among the highlights of Lenovo's refreshed hybrid

Lenovo has announced the Yoga 3 Pro, the latest in the company’s line of convertible ultrabooks, which is thinner and lighter, yet more powerful than the outgoing Yoga 2 Pro

Compared to the previous model, the Yoga 3 Pro slims down by 17%, with a 12.8mm thick frame when opened and weighing just 1.19kg – 14% less than before. According to Lenovo, this was made possible by using a watchband hinge constructed from more than 800 pieces of steel and aluminium, with six focus points rather than two. It’s thinner and tougher, but still letts you use the Yoga 3 Pro in laptop, stand, tent or tablet modes depending on what you’re working on.

Inside, Intel’s latest Core M processor with integrated graphics should provide plenty of 2D and 3D performance, with solid state storage up to 512GB giving users plenty of room for storing applications and multimedia files. On a full charge, Lenovo expects the Yoga 3 Pro to last up to nine hours. That’s despite powering a QHD+, 3,200×1,800 resolution display, protected by durable Gorilla Glass. You’ll also find a pair of JBL speakers, which automatically adjust audio based on what display mode you’re using – which should mean clear audio even when the speaker drivers aren’t facing you.

“The new YOGA 3 Pro convertible PC is the result of continual refinement and listening to customer feedback,” Dilip Bhatia, Lenovo’s VP of design and marketing, said of the launch. “While users told us they loved what YOGA allows them to do with the four modes, they wanted it even thinner and lighter. We have responded with an innovative new hinge design, and continued to evolve YOGA into a truly adaptable, intelligent device. Today I believe YOGA is among the world’s best notebook computers.”

As we’ve come to expect from the Yoga range, the Yoga 3 Pro will be launched in trademark Clementine Orange colours, as well as Platinum Silver and Champagne Gold.

The Yoga 3 Pro will be available from the end of October in the UK from www.lenovo.com and major retailers, with prices starting from £1,299. We’ll be taking a closer look at the launch event, so if you’re about to splash some cash on a convertible laptop you may want to hold off to read our first impressions and some more detailed specifications.
