Toshiba’s new Encore Mini tablet runs Windows 8.1
Encore Mini will run Windows 8.1 and come with a year's worth of Office, OneDrive and 60 minutes of Skype calls for free
Toshiba has just announced the 7in Encore Mini tablet at IFA 2014. It runs Windows 8.1 and will be available toward the end of the year in the UK.
According to Toshiba, the Encore Mini was designed for one-handed use and has been optimised to be used in portrait mode. It also looks like the original Encore’s pimpled rear texture will make a return, which should hopefully provide more grip than tablets with a flat rear panel.
The tablet’s 7in display has a 1,024×600 resolution and it’s powered by one of Intel’s Atom Baytrail processors, the Z3745. It also has 1GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics, and a 2-megapixel rear camera. It will weigh 350g and measure 119.8 x 199 x 10.9mm. Toshiba claims its battery will be able to last up to 72 hours.
As for ports, the Encore Mini has a micro USB port for charging, a microSD card slot that can support cards up to 128GB and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The amount of internal storage hasn’t been revealed yet.
Toshiba’s packed in several extra services for free, too, including a free one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal, 1TB of free OneDrive storage and 60 minutes of Skype world minutes each month.
There’s no word on price yet, but we’ll be bringing you all the latest news as it breaks.
