Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2014 review

In our live tests, Symantec’s software maintained the excellent performance we saw last year, successfully defending against 96 of the 100 threats we exposed it to and neutralising a further two before they could gain a foothold. It was compromised only twice. This performance gave it a weighted protection rating of 281 out of 300, just a point shy of the 282 recorded by Kaspersky Small Office Security. Happily, Endpoint Protection managed to provide a high level of protection without overreacting to harmless files. Of the 100 safe applications we tested, three were blocked automatically, and the software recommended the user block one other.

While Endpoint Protection isn’t the cheapest business anti-virus package, with six licences costing £137 per year exc VAT, it does include email scanning, and its total accuracy score of 986.5 out of 1,048 is almost a match for Kaspersky Small Office Security. We narrowly prefer the latter, but Symantec Endpoint Protection runs it very close indeed.
