Nero 11 Platinum review
An unbalanced media suite with a commendable video toolbox
Finally, Nero BackItUp is a simple but effective backup program that can archive your media library, specified folders or your entire system to the usual array of destinations, including ftp and optical disk. This version also includes a live backup feature. This makes frequent and background backups of your system to a local or networked drive, and you can return to the backup if things go awry. Live backup is simple to control and well executed and although it lacks the more sophisticated controls offered by dedicated backup applications, it will provide piece of mind. In addition, the Platinum version of Nero 11 lets you store up to 5GB of your media files on the Nero Online backup service. This provides more security than simply backing up to a local or USB disk, or even an optical drive, as your data is held safely off-site.
Given the availability of better free alternatives for music and photo management and editing, the main value in Nero 11 Platinum comes from its handling of video, with solid supporting roles for backup and disk burning. Creating, editing, authoring and recoding your videos can be achieved to good effect with the minimum of fuss so, although we have misgivings about the interface and media integration, for those on the lookout for an all-round video tool with benefits, Nero 11 Platinum, at the download price, is a decent enough tool.
