Connexin International Unlimited review

Our Rating :
Price when reviewed : £7.99

Connexin’s website is simple and easy to follow, and there are both pay-as-you-go and monthly subscription plans to choose from.

You can also buy hardware, such as IP phones and adaptors, but the cheapest option is to download an old version of the X-Lite Windows software to get you started with the service. There’s a Knowledge Base for frequently asked questions, but it’s a bit light on setup guides for hardware, while a number of entries that promise links to further help don’t actually do so.

Setting up X-Lite was reasonably simple, but the setup guide on Connexin’s site was out of date, and it wasn’t easy to work out which fields to fill in. After contacting the support team, we were pointed to an updated guide, which helped us to get X-Lite working in no time.

Connexin offers a limited choice of call plan: pay-as-you-go, plus UK and International monthly subscriptions. Call charges were average, and Connexin gave a middling result in our usage scenarios. While individual call charges were low compared to other services (mobile calls 10p per minute, calls to India a mere 5p), the monthly charge for International Unlimited reduces Connexin’s competitiveness compared to all pay-as-you-go services.

However, Connexin offers reasonable value for both UK and international callers. It’s not as cheap as Vonage for international calls, and if you don’t make a lot of calls, Voipfone’s pay-as-you-go service is cheaper. Still, Connexin offers the best combination of price, support and ease-of-use, so once again it wins our Best Buy award.
