Samsung Galaxy A7: specs and features revealed

Samsung has announced the super-slim Galaxy A7, to go alongside the Galaxy A3 and A5 handsets it announced last autumn. The new model has a 5.5in 720p Super AMOLED display and measures just 6.3mm thick – which is marginally thinner than both of its siblings, despite offering a larger screen size. 

The Galaxy A7 has an impressive internal specification, too. The device combines two quad-core processors (one running at 1.8GHz and a second at 1.3GHz), which should keep apps running along smoothly. That’s partnered with 2GB of RAM and a a base storage offering of 16GB, although owners can add another 64GB of storage via the microSD card slot.

The A7 has a 13-megapixel camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel snapper on the front, which should please selfie snappers. Indeed, Samsung’s ever-bountiful stock of bundled software includes an Auto Selfie mode, which makes it possible to snap a photo using voice commands or by simply waving your hand in front of the camera.

The phone comes with a 2,600mAh battery, which unusually for Samsung smartphones isn’t removable because of the metallic “unibody” design – and is another reason why Samung managed to keep the A7 so thin. The device measures 151 x 76.2 x 6.3mm and weighs 141g, which is marginally lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S5, although heavier than both the A3 and A5, which are 4.5in and 5in devices respectively. 

The phone will come in both single and dual-SIM varieties and in a range of colours: Pearl White, Midnight Black and Champagne Gold.

Samsung has yet to announce UK pricing and availability, but it should come in cheaper than the Galaxy S5.
