Enermax iVektor review

The Enermax iVektor is a medium-sized tower case with distinctive ridged plastic front and top panels. There are a couple of fan mounts behind the front panel, but the case only ships with a single rear case fan, even though it has a total of six mounting points. There are fine mesh grilles over all but the rear fan mounting points, which help to keep out dust and fluff, while solid side panels make for a decent level of soundproofing.

At the top of the case, alongside the power and reset buttons, there are two USB3 and two USB ports, 3.5mm mic and headphone ports, and a fan speed switch with three settings. The pair of USB3 ports means you’ll be able to take advantage of the mid-board USB3 header found on most modern motherboards.

The case’s interior edges are well finished. Inside, you’ll find three drive cages. The centre cage, designed to house four 2 1/2in drives, can be removed if you need to make room for a particularly long graphics card. There’s 322mm of depth with the 2 1/2in cage fitted and 415mm with it removed, so there’s room for a powerful card such as the AMD Radeon R9 290 either way. The case also has three 5 1/4in external bays and three internal 3 1/2in bays, and all have vibration-damping drive rails. There’s plenty of room for tall CPU coolers, thanks to an indentation in the side panel. The replaceable blanking plates covering the card slots at the rear are attached with standard posidrive screws.

The iVektor’s looks are definitely a matter of individual taste, but it’s a well made case which is easy to build, although we’d have liked more fans to be included. If you can live without front panel USB3, though, the Zalman Z9 Plus is a lot cheaper and a little more pleasant to work in, or you can get the excellent Antec P100 for around £10 more.
