Antec Nine Hundred Two review

We liked Antec’s original Nine Hundred case when we reviewed it all the way back in 2007. It’s still on sale now, but Antec has also released a sequel – the Nine Hundred Two. Like its precursor, it follows all the design standards for gaming cases, with a clear Perspex side panel and an industrial-looking front panel decorated with hexagonal mesh.

There are a few notable improvements. It’s heavier and more sturdily built, there are more dust filters, and external controls allow you to adjust the speed of the built-in fans and turn their lights off.

Inside, the build quality is outstanding, without a single unfinished edge anywhere on its enamel black interior. As well as a 200mm fan at the top of the case, there are three 120mm fans and another two mounting points.

There’s a bit less room to work inside the case than we’d have liked, particularly when it comes to tidying away excess cables, positioning the motherboard and fitting larger CPU coolers. Long graphics cards can also be a bit of a tight fit – it’s worth connecting their power cables before slotting them into place.

Despite its slightly cramped interior, we were impressed by the Nine Hundred Two’s high quality construction. With loads of fans and no vibration or sound damping to speak of, it’s a bit noisy to run but provides great airflow to keep a power-hungry system cool. However, its brutish looks and minimal sound damping make Fractal Design’s outstanding Define R2 our preferred choice.
