Apple’s Mac Mini is now £669 for Black Friday – a saving of £130
The 2020 Mac mini uses an 8th-generation Intel Core i3 processor for the 256GB SSD model
Apple’s 2020 Mac Mini model was only announced in March but that hasn’t stopped AO.com dropping its price as part of its Black Friday sale.
For what is likely to be a limited time, the Apple Mac Mini 2020 in Space Grey with 256GB SSD is £669, down from the RRP of £799.
Before March’s unveiling, the Mac Mini was last refreshed in 2018. It only received an upgrade to storage in 2020. The compact computer’s other specs remained the same to its 2018 iteration, but the storage was bumped to 256GB for the £799 model and 512GB for the £1,099 model.
The 2020 Mac mini still uses an 8th-generation Intel Core i3 processor for the £799 model and a Core i5 processor for the £1,099 model.
Both models come with 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory, Intel UHD Graphics 630, and a range of ports, including four Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C ports, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, an HDMI port, Ethernet, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The key features are:
- Apple-designed M1 chip
- 8-core CPU for up to 3x faster performance
- 8-core GPU with up to 6x faster graphics
- 16-core Neural Engine for advanced machine learning
- 8GB of unified memory
In 2018, our Review’s Editor Jonathan Bray found the base-level setup to be a reasonable work machine, provided you weren’t planning to do too much in the way of 4K video editing: “The Core i3-based Mac mini is perfectly capable of performing most things a reasonably demanding desktop PC user is likely to ask of it.
“It’ll take heavy Photoshop editing in its stride and even a modicum of video editing – with the right software, the Mac mini’s T2 co-processor is capable of dramatically accelerating HEVC video encoding. That said, this lowest-spec model will still likely start to struggle if you throw complex 4K video-editing projects at it.”
