Intuit QuickBooks Online Essentials review
Manage, file and share your accounts with this slick web-based service
The QuickBooks Online Google and iOS apps don’t provide the same level of functionality as the web interface, which will disappoint those who’d like to run their entire business from a tablet, but they do include the critical features you need when working away from the office. You can create invoices, add new customers and generate estimates and receipts, but you can’t access your bank accounts, budgets and reports.
CONCLUSION
Intuit QuickBooks Online stands up well to rivals such as Sage One. It’s got all the features you’ll need for bookkeeping and the ability to give your accountant access to your books is massively useful. Although the service is clearly laid out and easy to use, with helpful inline documentation, there are places where we’d have liked more detail, particularly on potential browser issues such as the Budget creation pop-up being automatically blocked by Chrome.
We tested QuickBooks Essentials, which costs £19 per month. The most basic package, Simple Start, has fewer features, costs £9 per month and is best suited to partnerships and sole traders, while the £29 per month Plus version adds stock tracking features and provides time logging features for your staff. QuickBooks is a powerful and effective accounts service, and with a few tweaks to its layout and improved mobile apps, it could be a future Expert Reviews award winner.
