Synology DSM 5.0 beta launch event open to all comers
Synology owners will be able to try the latest NAS operating system and hardware at the company's DSM 5.0 beta launch event in January
Synology will kick start the launch of its new DSM 5.0 firmware beta with a preview event in London, which will be open to everyone keen to see the new operating system in action on the company’s latest Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices.
Although Synology’s routinely excellent performance in our reviews is partly down to the quality of the hardware, it’s the DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system that makes the DiskStation and RackStation ranges stand out when compared to their similarly well-specified and economically priced peers. We loved its simplicity when we reviewed the DS213j, but simple doesn’t have to mean lacking – DSM is one of the best NAS firmware around in terms of features and app support.
The DiskStation Manager operating system is perhaps the strongest feature of Synology NAS devices
Most companies restrict their launch events to journalists or purchasing managers at massive retail chains, but Synology has opened the DSM 5.0 firmware beta launch to anyone who’s interested, including both current and potential home and business users of their hardware.
You can sign up for the event, which takes place at Millbank Tower in London on the afternoon of Thursday the 16th of January, at www.synology.com
We very much welcome this kind of openness from hardware companies, as it gives users an opportunity to make direct contact with staff and get hands on with future developments. We’ll be attending and hope to see some of you there, too.
As ever, Synology NAS devices running the current edition of DSM can be upgraded to the new edition for free when it comes out.
