EE trumpets 10 minutes, 10 texts, 100MB of data for £1 a week
Host of new EE pay as you go tariffs announced with prices starting at just £1 a week, but there's a catch
EE has launched new £1 a week 4G tariffs, saying it wants to transform the way people buy pay and go credit. The UK’s largest mobile phone network said the tariffs would allow even more people to enjoy speedy 4G data.
For £1 EE pay as you go customers can get either 100MB of 4G data, 10 minutes of call time and 10 texts or 25 minutes of call time, 50 texts and no data. Both tariffs last for seven calendar days from the day of purchase. At 4G speeds the 100MB of data could be used up in a matter of seconds. The new cut-price deals are available now from EE stores and the EE website.
EE also announced a number of other new pay as you go tariffs. For £10 EE is offering 250 minutes and unlimited texts for a 30 day period or 150 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. For £15 customers can get 750 minutes and unlimited texts or 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB of double speed 4G, again valid for 30 days. Finally, for £25 EE is offering 1000 minutes, unlimited texts and 4GB of double speed 4G data for £25 valid for 30 days.
The company said that the new £1 per week deals were designed to provide “increased flexibility to meet customer need”. Customers can pick and choose different packs each week or month depending on their budget with regular customers rewarded with added extras.
EE pay as you go customers who purchase a tariff each week or month for three months can add more minutes, texts and data at no extra cost. For example, EE said that customers on a new 30 day tariff could choose between an extra 250MB of data, 50 minutes or 50 texts.
EE recently expanded 4G roaming to 14 new countries including Canada, Germany, Italy and Russia. However the cost of data while roaming on EE still makes roaming prohibitively expensive. 100MB of 4G data in South Korea, for example, costs £90. At 4G speeds it would be easy to use that in a few seconds. EE boss Olaf Swantee said that 4G roaming was ideal for “finding a great place to eat in an unknown city”.
