Motorola Xplay 6.3in phablet rumoured for Q3 2014 launch
Motorola may be working on a 6.3in phablet, possibly under the Xplay name, for an expected Q3 launch
Motorola may be in the process of being sold to Lenovo by Google, but that doesn’t mean the company has stopped making smartphones – the latest rumours suggest it is working on a phablet device, possibly known as the Xplay.
According to a user on the Chinese micro-blogging site Sina Weibo, who has previously provided accurate leaks on the Moto X and Moto G, the Motorola Xplay will be arriving this year, possibly in the Autumn, although the name and exact screen size weren’t confirmed. It is possible the name and specifications have changed in development, but we won’t know for sure until more information gets revealed.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing of a rumoured 6.3in device; the Xplay was originally uncovered back in October last year, but beyond a name and screen size there was very little information to go on. If the company is indeed working on a phablet, it appears Lenovo won’t be stepping in to make changes to the device, as it confirmed it had no plans to make any adjustments to Motorola’s 2014 and 2015 line-up.
With the Moto G still selling phenomenally well as one of the best budget Android handsets around, and the upcoming Moto 360 smart watch already confirmed for 2014, it could be shaping up to be a busy year for Motorola – regardless of who actually owns the company.
