Sony Honami could be called the Xperia Z1
According to a leaked Android ROM, the upcoming Sony Honami smartphone could be known as the Xperia Z1 when it launches later in the year
The fact that Sony is working on a new smartphone isn’t exactly a secret – the [A HREF=”https://www.expertreviews.com/uk/smartphones/1301062/sony-xperia-i1-honami-specifications-appear-20-7mp-camera-looks-likely”]i1 Honami[/a[ has leaked online several times already, and in the run up to next months IFA event in Berlin the news keeps coming.
The latest rumour, according to recognised XDA Developers member DooMLoRD, is that the Honami will be known as the Xperia Z1 when it gets formally announced. This would likely set it up to replace the existing Xperia Z as Sony’s flagship handset, but sit alongside the Xperia Z Ultra phablet.
According to leaked specifications, the Honami/Xperia Z1 will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, running at 2.2GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM. A 5in, Full HD 1,920×1,080 resolution display will apparently use Sony’s Triluminos quantum dot display technology for improved colour accuracy.
16GB of internal storage, MicroSD card expansion, NFC, MHL and Miracast are all tipped to appear, along with a 20.7-megapixel Exmor-RS camera sensor paired with Sony’s G-Lens and the Bionz for Mobile imaging engine.
It’s unclear whether the handset will include IPX57 dust and water resistance like the Xperia Z, or IPX58 waterproofing like the Xperia Z Ultra, but it looks likely to continue Sony’s “One Sony” design strategy and use lots of sharp lines and minimal curves.
We won’t be waiting long to find out what Sony has planned, as the company has set a date for its IFA press conference. We’ll know more on the 4th of September, when we’ll be on the ground in Berlin to bring you the latest as it happens.
