ZTE Grand Memo announced – full specs

ZTE Grand Memo - the biggest smartphone-cum-tablet yet

ZTE has launched the ZTE Grand Memo at MWC today. The new device sits somewhere between a smartphone and a tablet – much like the popular Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – but is bigger still with a huge 5.7in screen, compared to the Note’s 5.55in display.

Depsite numerous handsets now appearing with Full HD displays, such as the HTC One and Sony Xperia Z, the ZTE Grand Memo only has a 1,280×720 resolution.

Inside it’s no slouch though with a Snapdragon 800 chipsets with quad-core Krait CPUs – which sit somewhere between ARM’s A9 and A15 Cortex cores. There’s also 2GB of RAM, something you only find on top-end handsets still. The Grand Memo should certainly be quick.

There’s a big 3,200mAh is a touch bigger than the Galaxy Note 2’s, but then the bigger screen should more than offset that. It should be a reasonable performer in this regard then, though we doubt it will quite equal the huge score we saw in the Note 2’s video playback battery test – almost seventeen hours.

It’s running a lightly-modified version of Android 4.1, with some user-interface touches for the big screen – such as a dialler keypad that can be positioned on either side of the display for one-handed use. There’s also a neat lockscreen widget for accessing common tasks.

The 13-megapixel camera sounds impressive, though we’ll have to wait for some test shots both we give our opinion. There’s 16GB inside for storing those photos, and any other files or apps. Plus the specification is rounded out with LTE support.

It looks pretty sleek too, with a gloss black finish and at a slender 8.5mm thick. It will be coming to the UK later in the year, and could prove very popular at the right price.

We’ll bring you more details and a hands-on as soon as possible.
