Prime Day deals: 5G smartphones don’t get any cheaper than this
Nokia G50 is £40 off for Prime Day.
I’ve been reviewing phones long enough to remember when having 5G was such a premium feature that I was extremely excited to find it in a phone costing £669.
The above review was originally written in 2019, and the world is quite different three years later — and not just because of the wasted pandemic years. I’m now in the position where I’m able to write about a very competent 5G phone available for just £160.
The handset in question is the Nokia G50 5G — a handset I actually reviewed last year. Back then it cost £200, but as part of Amazon’s Prime Day festivities, you can have it — and the blistering fast speeds that 5G offers — delivered tomorrow for just £160.
To be clear, it’s not like it’s the best phone I’ve ever reviewed, but the Nokia G50 is perfectly competent, has a stylish design and a massive screen if you believe that bigger is better.
“It’s hard to say exactly what the Nokia G0 does better than its main rivals,” I concluded, saying that while it’s better looking than its key ~£200 peers, the screen tech and camera is a little behind. “If you see it for a decent discount, jump right in,” I added.
Well, that day has come: a £40 saving makes this a far more appealing buy than it was at the time, and there’s a lot here to like, especially if you’re in a place with good 5G reception.
Alternatively, if you have a bit more budget, then you might want to consider the OnePlus Nord 2, which is down to £290 on Amazon at the moment — a solid £109 saving on its normal £399 RRP.
