Save £400 on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus for Prime Day
Samsung’s big-handed mobile is a steal for £549
Prime Day is well and truly underway, and those with big hands but mid-sized wallets could do a whole lot worse than looking at Amazon’s current Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus deals.
The retailer is selling last year’s plus-sized flagship with a £400 saving, though at the time of writing the colour options are a bit limited. If you’re happy with Phantom Violet, then you can get the 128GB model for £549 or the 256GB version for £599. If you prefer something a little less vibrant, then you can also get the silver 256GB model for £599.
I would say that it’s worth paying the extra £50 for double the storage: unlike past Galaxy handsets, the internal storage can’t be supplemented with a microSD card.
Yes, this is from last year’s Samsung Galaxy S family, but bluntly there’s not that big a difference between last year’s range and this year’s, unless you’re dead set on the Note-like S22 Ultra.
For the non-Ultra models, the design is practically identical, the cameras are almost as good, and while it should be a bit slower, in practical terms we found it virtually a dead heat:
In fact, it was slightly faster for graphical performance.
Also, my fellow large handed folk should actually look to last year’s model if they want the most screen bang-for-their-buck. While the S21 Plus has a 6.7in display, the S22 Plus shrunk it to ‘just’ 6.6in. Okay, that’s not a huge difference, but it’s another point in favour of saving money with older tech.
In our review, the only real criticism we had for the S21 Plus was that it wasn’t worth buying over the £180 cheaper non-Plus version. “My final thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus are largely the same as they were for the S21,” wrote our Senior Editor Nathan Spendelow in his review. “It’s an astonishingly good, top-shelf handset, and it’s a smartphone that should serve you well for the coming years, if you can afford it.
“Is it worth spending the extra £180, though? Probably not,” he continued. “The entry-level model is still the best value of the bunch, since the S21 Plus’ only benefits – a slightly better battery life and a marginally bigger screen – aren’t the most groundbreaking of bonuses,” he concluded.
Given it’s now available for £400 off and the regular S21 isn’t, that point seems moot to me. Buy with confidence.
