Huawei P40 Lite has arrived in Europe: Presales for the €299 handset open on 2 March
The Huawei P40 Lite is powered by a Kirin 810 chipset and runs on the EMUI 10 operating system
We hadn’t expected to see the Huawei P40 make its debut until the end of March, and yet a listing has appeared on the Spanish Huawei store that shows it off in all its glory. Well, the Lite version at least.
Spotted by GSMArena, via tech site Viatea, it appears Spanish journalists have been given hands-on briefings with the new handset ahead of it going on presale (in Spain) on 2 March.
It will then be available via Huawei’s physical and eCommerce store from 7 March and will start shipping more widely on 16 March. This later date will also be when the phone is available through third-party retailers.
The hands-on reveals that the Huawei P40 Lite is powered by a Kirin 810 chipset and runs on the EMUI 10 operating system. This OS is based on Android 10 but doesn’t offer any Google apps or services following the recent Huawei ban in the US.
That may change come the release of the rumoured Huawei P40 and P40 Pro at the scheduled launch event on 26 March after Google reapplied for a licence to work with the Chinese firm.

Elsewhere, the 6.4in, Full HD+ Huawei P40 Lite features 6GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage and a whopping 4,200 mAh battery that reportedly supports 40W charging through the USB-C port. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack and the fingerprint scanner sits on the side of the phone, doubling up as the power button.
Camera-wise, there is a square camera set up on the rear with a 48MP camera alongside an 8MP ultrawide one. There’s also a dedicated macro camera and a depth sensor. On the front, the selfie camera has a 16MP sensor and f/2.0 lens.
It costs €299 and, as the Spanish store listing reveals, if you buy it directly from Huawei, you’ll get a pair of Freebuds 3 and a screen protector included in the price.
