Motorola unveils the Moto G8 Plus, Moto E6 Play and Motorola One Macro
Mo’ to love
Motorola has lifted the lid on not one, not two but three new phones. Each one is from a different family, with the E, G and One brands represented.
First up is the Moto G8 Plus. A plus-sized version of the Moto G8 which, thus far, doesn’t exist. Nonetheless, it’s always nice to see a new member of the Moto G family and this one comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, backed by 4GB RAM.
Its 6.3in frame means there’s room for a 4,000mAh battery but the real star of the show, Motorola says, is the triple-camera array on the back, which includes a 48-megapixel f/1.7 main lens, supported by a 2-megapixel depth sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide snapper.
We’re yet to review any phones with the Snapdragon 665 chipset, so no early clues as to how it’ll perform, but with its £239 price point we’re expecting workhorse rather than lightning fast.
Next up is the Motorola One Macro which, as the name suggests, is all about the macro photography. Well, one of its three lenses is, anyway: a 2-megapixel f/2.2 camera that lets you get as close as 2cm from your subject (try doing that without casting a shadow). The other two are a more conventional 13-megapixel f/2.0 main lens and a 2-megapixel f/2.2 depth sensor.
How good any of these is an open question, given it’s a £179 handset, but the company has punched above its weight in camera specs before, so we shall see. This one is powered by the 2GHz MediaTek Helio P70 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery.
Finally, there’s the Moto E6 Play (not pictured), which is a stablemate of the Moto E6 Plus. We don’t have a great deal on this one yet specs wise, only that it’s a 32GB, 5.5in device with a single 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. Motorola says it’ll have both a fingerprint reader and face unlock and that it’ll be under £99 – which is unsurprising, given that’s the price of the Moto E6 Plus.
