This Huawei Mate 20 X bundle is superb value
A whole lot of screen for under £500
The Huawei Mate 20 X is one hell of a smartphone. I mean that in every possible sense: if you thought that Samsung Galaxy Note 10 was a chunky fellow, wait until you get a look at the Mate 20 X.
That excellent 1080p screen is 7.2in across. You may think “that sounds big” in the abstract sense, but let me put it into perspective: it’s the same size as the Nintendo Switch display.
If that sounds exactly what you’ve been looking for, then the rest is all excellent too: it’s ridiculously powerful, has Huawei’s incredible camera technology and has a battery that lasted over 21 hours in our tests.
And now you can get it for £499.95 at Argos – a saving of £300 off its RRP. Better still, that offer comes with a free Huawei Band 3 Pro fitness tracker thrown in, which on its own should retail for £60.
We haven’t reviewed the Band 3 Pro yet (as it happens, I just took delivery of it yesterday for the write-up and so far, so good), but £500 for the phone on its own is a pretty incredible deal. If you’re a fan of big, tablet-like experiences, it’s hard to go wrong – especially as it’s compatible with Huawei’s own M-Pen (£39.99, sold separately) for doodling on the go.
“The Huawei Mate 20 X is one hell of a smartphone,” I wrote in my original review. “It inherits the best bits of the Mate 20 Pro – the camera and power – while improving on already stonking battery life. There’s a slight dip in screen quality but not in any way that should seriously put off anybody trying it out.” If you think you can handle a phone this size, then now’s the time to prove it.
