The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is a bargain at £450
The Plus version of the Galaxy S9 was one of the best phones of 2018
In March 2018, Samsung unveiled two versions of the Samsung Galaxy S9. They went on to get two excellent reviews from us, with one drawback shared between the two: they were too damned expensive. The vanilla S9 went for £739 while the larger S9 Plus sold for £100 more.
Sixteen months is an age in smartphone pricing, and now you can get the still very powerful Galaxy S9 Plus for £450 from Argos. That’s all the better, given the plain old S9 sells for £50 more at the same retailer.
And to be absolutely crystal clear, the S9 Plus is better in every way there is a difference. It has a slightly larger 6.2in display, double the internal storage (128GB) and an extra 500mAh in the battery. Most importantly of all, it has a second camera on the back, providing a 2x telephoto lens for zoomed photography.
On top of that, Samsung has always been pretty good on the extras, and everything you could want is here and accounted for. IP68 waterproofing? Check. MicroSD card support? Check. Wireless charging? Check. It even has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The only possible drawback is that it’s getting on a little bit, and that’s definitely true. If you’d bought one on release, you’d only have eight months left on your contract. But as phones go, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus was at the very top end of what you could buy last year, and it’s still near the top of the tree in 2019, despite being superseded by the Samsung Galaxy S10.
So yes, if you want the very latest technology, this deal isn’t for you. If, however, you want a powerful phone on a budget, then don’t think twice about putting one in your Argos basket.
