Is EE down? Four major networks are reportedly suffering outages right now, including EE
Are you an EE customer struggling with network issues? we're staying on top of the latest outage news so you don't have to
Is EE down where you are? Don’t worry: we’re keeping track of reported outages across the UK so you can stay abreast of any serious issues with your mobile network. Below, you’ll find a log of past major network outages, as well as any recent issues worth noting.
UPDATE 17/03/20: The Independent reports that network providers EE, Vodafone, O2 and Tesco Mobile are all experiencing outages. So far, the extent and cause of the outage are unknown. EE has yet to issue a statement, but we’ll keep you posted.
12/02/20: We tracked a brief spike in network issue reports on the DownDetector website and general Google search interest in EE network problems. EE confirmed that the service was experiencing issues in Bromley, Kent, and was also looking into issues in the Fitzrovia area.
21/05/19: EE customers across the UK are unable to make calls and use data due to a major outage on the network.
It is not yet known what is causing the EE signal problems but reports of people not being able to make calls began flooding in from 9am on Tuesday 21 May.
EE has not issued a formal statement on the outage, beyond saying that the matter should be resolved. Yet its customer service team has been responding to complaints on Twitter with the following: “We’re aware that a small number of customers are unable to make some calls over 4G. We’re doing our best to fix this quickly. Please keep retrying, and we apologise for any inconvenience. WiFi calling, as well as text and data services, are not affected.”
Some of the responses include a similar statement, but leave out the part about calls over 4G.
According to the DownDetector site, there were more than 1,000 outage reports made at 1pm alone, with a number of customers saying they can’t make calls at all – over 4G or over the cellular network. Others are reporting switching the phone to Airplane Mode and back again will solve the issue, but this is not the case for everyone.
To add further confusion, EE’s network status checker is showing no problems.
Expert Reviews has contacted EE for clarification but in the meantime you can make a complaint either by chatting to a customer service rep online, or calling the complaints team on 0800 079 0126 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, or 8am to 6pm at weekends.
Ofcom recently introduced new guidelines that mean broadband providers are required to automatically compensate customers for loss of service. Sadly, these don’t cover mobile network providers but the communications watchdog does explain more about your rights here.
