Get a free Google Home Hub with the brand-new Pixel 3a or 3a XL
This is ludicrously good value
Usually it doesn’t pay to be an early adopter of phones, with prices only dropping after the loyal fans have their SIM cards safely installed. The Google Pixel 3a is bucking that trend. It literally only came out yesterday, but already Argos is making the Pixel 3a better value than it already is.
And if you’ve read our review, you’ll know that’s already very good value indeed. The handset goes for £399.95, or £469.95 if you want the 6in XL version, but right now at Argos you can get a free Google Home Hub thrown in – which on its own sells for £119. That’s a great way of getting two cracking products on the cheap.
Let’s start with the Pixel 3a and 3a XL. Both handsets are the proud owners of our coveted 5-star reviews; the Pixel 3a family manages to knock nearly half the RRP off its flagship siblings without losing 50% of what makes them so appealing.
Sure, you have a slower Snapdragon 670 processor, there’s a plastic back rather than glass and the wide-angle selfie lens is cut, but pretty much everything else survives: including the superb OLED screen and the best-in-class camera. They even manage to improve slightly on their siblings with 3.5mm headphone jacks, albeit at the expense of waterproofing.
Google Home Hub is a very different beast, but still got a five-star review from us. It’s a smart speaker with a screen, essentially, meaning you can ask it questions and it’ll reply with both words and pictures. Crucially, it has a big advantage over Amazon’s rival Echo Show: Google’s ownership of YouTube, which means you can easily bring up any video you want with just the power of your voice.
In other words, you’re getting a lot of value for your £399.95. In theory, the deal should be running until Wednesday 22 May, but I wouldn’t wait too long if I were you, just in case they come to their senses ahead of time.
