The SIM-free Pixel 3 is a great price right now

Save £254 on the Pixel 3

If I were in the market for a new phone right now, I’d make it a Google Pixel 3. This purely hypothetical me (My Huawei P20 Pro still has a year’s contract to run) would buy one slightly grudgingly at the somewhat optimistic £719 Google originally charged for it, however.

Thankfully Mobiles.co.uk has stepped in with a deal which makes the Pixel 3 very competitive indeed. You can buy a 64GB Pixel 3 in black for £485, a saving of £254. Sadly both white and pink are out of stock, but if you fancy a softer shade and can spare an extra £4, Carphone Warehouse has the former and John Lewis has the latter.

One small word of caution – and in fact, it’s about the only bad thing I have to say about the Pixel 3 – there’s no expandable storage. So if 64GB looks a little bit tight, you may want to stump up for the 128GB model. That’s available at Mobiles.co.uk for £565 (white only), too.

A quick recap on why the Pixel 3 is so great: first of all, it’s the only handset outside of iOS where the hardware and software is made by the same company. Not only does this mean that everything behaves very nicely, but you also get Android updates before everybody else.

Then there’s the hardware itself. While the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is no longer the fastest processor around, it’s pretty damned quick and will comfortably serve you for a few good years. Google’s camera tech is top notch, too, and despite the Pixel 3 having just the single lens on the back, picture quality is up there with the very best of them.

As I say, it’s what I’d buy if I were looking right now. And doubly so at this price.
