This incredible Sony Xperia XZ3 deal is £147 cheaper than its SIM-free price
A bargain on Sony’s flagship OLED handset
The Sony Xperia XZ3 is an excellent smartphone with one fatal drawback: it costs too much. With a RRP of £699, it’s a big ask to get shoppers to buy it ahead of excellent – and in many cases, considerably cheaper – alternatives from Samsung, LG or OnePlus.
But if you really want Sony’s latest, you needn’t let this head vs heart calculation come into things, because right now you can get a 24-month contract with no upfront cost on O2 which comes out cheaper than the SIM-free price. Astonishing value.
The deal comes courtesy of Mobile Phones Direct, and will cost you just £23 per month with no upfront cost. For that, you’ll get the Sony Xperia XZ3, with a monthly allowance of 3GB data, 1,000 minutes of voice calls and unlimited text messages.
To save you doing the maths, that’s £552 over the duration of the two-year contract, or £147 cheaper than its SIM-free price.
The XZ3, in case you needed reminding, is Sony’s first with an OLED screen, and it’s a real treat. As Nathan wrote in his review: “this is one heck of a smartphone screen”, managing to reproduce 99% of the sRGB colour gamut, and with perfect contrast.
On top of that, of course, it comes fitted out with the Snapdragon 845 process – still the fastest available in the Android world until the 855 drops – backed with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The 19-megapixel f/2.0 camera with Electronic Image Stabilisation is capable of taking phenomenal shots packed with colour and detail.
All in all, as Nathan wrote, this is a “welcome return to form” with the, uh, optimistic pricing being the only sticking point. Now that’s no longer an issue, you can go ahead and order in confidence.
