LG G4 Beat is official, launching this month

LG has officially unveiled the LG G4 Beat. Sitting in between the flagship G4 and smaller, cheaper G4c, the G4 Beat looks to be LG’s mid-range offering in the G4 family, keeping some of the G4’s best features and functions while (hopefully) bringing the price down along with it. 

There’s no official word on how much the G4 Beat will cost just yet, but this 5.2in smartphone will have a 1,920×1,080 resolution display – something LG says is “clearer, sharper and more responsive than anything offered by LG before in this category” – and an octa-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and 1.5GB of RAM. It’s a fraction fatter than the G4, measuring 143x73x9.85mm, but its weight of 139g will feel much lighter in the hand. 

Admittedly, the rear 8-megapixel camera is quite a step down from the G4’s 16-megapixel sensor, but what the G4 Beat lacks in size, it makes up for by keeping the G4’s unique colour spectrum sensor and laser autofocus. The G4’s Manual mode will also make an appearance on the G4 Beat, giving you much greater control over the quality of your shots. Meanwhile, the front camera will have a 5-megapixel sensor that can take advantage of LG’s Gesture Interval Shot feature, allowing users to take four consecutive selfies with a single hand gesture. 

The G4 Beat will run the very latest version of Android 5.1.1 and will be available in metallic silver, ceramic white and shiny gold. It also has a removable 2,300mAh battery.

The G4 beat will launch in key European and Latin American markets by the end of July, including France, Germany and Brazil, before a global rollout in the coming months.
