Nokia 215 is Microsoft’s cheapest internet-ready phone yet
Costing just $29, Microsoft's latest handset is a throwback to the Nokia phones of yore
Microsoft Devices has announced the Nokia 215, its most affordable internet-ready phone yet. Costing just $29 before tax, the handset harks back to the Nokia phones of old with its 2.4in 160×120 resolution screen and prominent keypad. It weighs 78.7g, measures 116x50x12.9mm thick and runs the Nokia Series 30+ operating system.
“With our ultra-affordable mobile phones and digital services, we see an inspiring opportunity to connect the next billion people to the Internet for the first time,” said Jo Harlow, corporate vice president of Microsoft Devices Group. “The Nokia 215 is perfect for people looking for their first mobile device, or those wanting to upgrade to enjoy affordable digital and social media services, like Facebook and Messenger.”
Online features already confirmed are the Opera Mini Browser, Bing Search, MSN Weather, Twitter and Facebook. The Nokia 215 also supports SLAM, which lets you share content between devices and allows you to make calls hands-free using Bluetooth 3.0.
Microsoft claims its 1,110mAh battery will be able to last for up to 20 hours of talktime and up to 50 hours of music playback. There’s no word on how much internal storage the phone has yet, but the Nokia 215 will support microSD cards up to 32GB.
Available in both single and dual SIM variations, the Nokia 215 comes in bright green, black and white. There’s no word on UK pricing or availability just yet, but Microsoft has said the phone will roll out in select markets in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe in Q1 of 2015.
