Samsung Galaxy F spotted with metal bezel

Samsung Galaxy F

Samsung's long-rumoured Galaxy F has apparently been photographed ahead of an official announcement

The Galaxy F, Samsung’s long-rumoured premium upgrade to the Galaxy S5, has apparently broken cover for the first time; leaked photographs claiming to be the previously unseen handset appear to show a metal rather than plastic bezel, but the shape and features don’t exactly match up with the various leaks and device renders we’ve seen so far.

The photos, leaked to GSMArena, show an unannounced Samsung handset with a metal frame around the edges, seemingly confirming the rumours that the Galaxy F would use an all-metal chassis, and incredibly thin screen bezels. The plastic Galaxy S5 might be water-resistant, but it’s starting to look a little cheap compared to the metallic HTC One (m8) and iPhone 5s, so the move to metal will surely be welcomed by Touchwiz fans – assuming the images do actually show a metal surround. Samsung handsets often look like they use premium materials, but are in fact made from plastic; the faux leather back cover on the Galaxy Note 3 and silver effect bezel on the Galaxy S5 are two prime examples.

Samsung Galaxy F leak - GSMarena

According to GSM Arena, the Galaxy F will keep the Galaxy S5’s removable plastic back, but use an aluminium frame almost identical to the one found on Apple’s latest iPhone. Inside, it is expected to use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 805 system-on-chip (SoC), 3GB of RAM and a 2,560×1,440 QHD resolution display that should compete directly with LG’s G3 smartphone.

However, this latest image should be taken with a pinch of salt. The shape of the handset’s corners are a little too square to be an exact match for for the Galaxy S5, and they contradict the early renders posted to the @EVleaks twitter account showing a different placement for the light sensors and front-facing camera – see the main image above for reference. It’s possible that both images are correct and are actually showing two different phones, but we would hazard a guess that the digital renders were made at an early stage to show the Galaxy F off in concept, and have since been revised.

Until Samsung makes the Galaxy F official we’ll just have to wait to find out if this latest leak proves accurate.
